ARTIST STATEMENT

Monica Guillory is a contemporary realist artist whose work explores the impermanence of memory through evocative imagery inspired by vintage family photographs from the 1960s. By reinterpreting these nostalgic snapshots, she investigates how recollections fade, shift, and distort over time. Her layered compositions blur the lines between past and present, inviting viewers to question the reliability of personal and collective memory.

Her work has been widely exhibited in juried and national exhibitions, including Art of the Heartland at Mena Gallery, Expressions West at Coos Art Museum—where she received a 2nd Place Award— and MGAL National Juried Exhibition with the Memphis Germantown Art League. They have also received honors such as Best in Show at the Coastal Art League’s Annual Juried Competition and an Honorable Mention at M S Rezney Gallery’s not BIG(3) exhibition. Her work has been featured in American Art Collector magazine, further establishing their presence in the contemporary art scene.

Through a process of layering, erasure, and abstraction, she captures the fleeting nature of memory, transforming personal history into a universal meditation on time, joy, and remembrance.
